AFM Images - Normal vs. Nanotube Tips

 

Image taken in contact mode with a normal tip.

a) This image was taken in contact mode with a normal tip

 

Same sample as above but taken with a nanotube tip in tapping mode.

b) This image of the same sample was taken with a nanotube tip (in tapping mode). Small, previously unseen, neighbors to the islands, "hutlings", are resolved.
